Do you struggle with speaking to groups of people? If your answer is yes, you’re not alone- many people have problems with this same task. However, here are 3 easy ways to help ease your nerves in front of an audience and help you become comfortable with public speaking.

First, dress to impress. When you look good, you feel good. Not only will you feel more confident in yourself, but your audience is more likely to listen to you when you look professional- like you know what you’re talking about. Furthermore, don’t just act like you know what you’re talking about- actually know what you’re talking about. When you are well prepared to speak in front of an audience, your mind is less likely to blank in the middle of the presentation.

Second, try to interact with the audience as you speak. At the very minimum, maintain eye contact. It may help if you try to get to know your audience before speaking. Personally speaking with them beforehand will help it feel as if you are speaking to friends, rather than strangers. Telling stories during your speech will also help keep the audience interested and engaged.

Lastly, practicing will help you feel more confident and comfortable with speaking in front of a group of people. When you are more comfortable with speaking in front of a group of people, you will be less likely to lose your train of thought and will be able to engage more with your audience.

Public speaking can cause unnecessary stress, but hopefully with the help of these tips you will become comfortable with public speaking and feel at ease in no time!
